Our first thoughts were that it was going to be a miserable fortnight if the weather didn^Òt improve, but once on the M6 the clouds cleared and we arrived in Barbridge in bright sunshine. We unloaded the car and made a provisions trip into Nantwich. We had arranged with my parents that they drop our two kids off at audlem on their way home from South Wales, so we decided tomove that way then we wouldn^Òt have to rush in the morning. Triffic having been left moored the ^Ówrong^Ô way round we set off for Barbridge junction where I can normally turn Triffic being 45ft. However, the canal decided to become incredibly busy just at that moment and so we followed the Middlewich branch to the first winding hole and winded returning to the Shroppie and had a pleasant cruise up through Hack Green locks, electing to moor at Coole Pilate rather than push on and risk spending our limited funds at The Shroppie Fly. Saturday morning dawned and we made our way to Audlem mooring above the 4th lock. Having decided that the temperature was going to be too high for jeans I made the dread discovery that I hadn^Òt packed a narrow belt. As I need one to keep my belly under control we walked into the village not expecting too much, but delighted to discover a store that not only stocked belts but one to fit my waist. We then visited my favourite charity shop the Cancer Relief one. Not particularly my favourite charity but my favourite shop as prices appear to be stuck in a time warp. Hilary purchased two sundresse and I bought 4 secondhand paperbacks for the princely sum of 3.80ukp. Back on the boat we set up the parasol on the back deck and awaited the arrival of our locking crew, otherwise known as the kids. They duly arrived and waving goodbye to my mum and dad who ran off cheering, we commenced the rest of the flight. Now that Graeme has got the hang of lock wheeling, this went smoothly as did the ascent of Adderly. We moored just past the second bridge above the flight at the insistence of SWMBO, left to my own devices once at the tiller I^Òve got to be forcibly stopped. A lovely peaceful location until about 11pm when the wedding party at the top of the locks had a Beatles tribute band on. The volume where we were was just about tolerable, I don^Òt know how the boats moored closer fared, never mind the wedding guests. Bored yet or shall I continue? -- Clive clive.worrall@btinternet.com
