We plan to leave our mooring at Iver (GU ^Ö Slough Arm) on Monday 15th March and take ^ÓLady Elgar^Ô back to her birthplace (Dave Elwell^Òs yard below Compton Lock on the Staffs & Worcs). From there we intend to motor up the Shroppie and the Llangollen to Pontcysyllte. We have done all this in previous years but, after our return to Hurleston Junction we shall be in new waters. Our route will, hopefully, take us via the Bridgwater to the Leeds and Liverpool; we hope to reach Keadby and then return home via the Trent, Soar, GU Leicester Arm and main line. We expect to be back at base some time in July. The whole trip is about 750 miles with 450 locks. Just for the record, Lady Elgar is a 60ft, trad-style, steel narrowboat (built to our spec in 1993) with Perkins 3HD46 (9152 to the cognoscenti). My wife, Mary, and I are both retired and have lived permanently on the boat for several years now. Last year we did the full length of the Thames from Limehouse to Lechlade, the K&A to Bristol and back, the South Oxford and as far north as Snarestone on the Ashby canal ( 602 miles and 442 locks in all). Cheers, Trevor - nb "Lady Elgar" - Grand Union Canal
