We have been making our way steadily up the Grand Union and are nearly round Milton Keynes (moored near Stantonbury). No major problems but we were held up for an hour in Marsworth top lock while BW removed a gantry from the next lock; fortunately we shared the lock with another boat and were able to chat to them. BW were also repairing a weir below Soulbury, the pound down to Stoke Hammond was *very* shallow Managed 24 locks in a day on Wednesday (good progress for us) through Berko thanks to a stint of lock-wheeling. Our dog has finally got the hang of lock-wheeling and trots along happily beside me instead of going at full speed and then suddenly stopping for a smell and nearly pitching me and the bike into the Cut ^Ö which is what she was doing last year. She seems altogether more resigned to the cruising life. We passed Mike Stephens boat ^ÓFelis Catus^Ô at Hillingdon, also ^ÓFulbourne^Ô. At Berko we got talking to a guy who turned out to be David Powell, chairman of the "Friends of President". He commended Malcolm Nixon for his work on the ^ÓPresident^Ô website. Unfortunately I can only receive at 9600 bps when cruising so I have my browser set not to show pictures (web designers must *love* that!) thus I cannot check it out properly. Hope to reach Nether Heyford tomorrow. Cheers, Trevor - nb "Lady Elgar" - Grand Union Canal
