I took care not to cut the corners and watch out for notices, I saw a couple that said "Sunken Island" but it didn't say whereabouts they were and thank goodness we didn't find out. We turned into Torksey cut and there waiting was K2, also the cruiser from the night before who was in such hurry was moored up as well. We met up with the crew of K2 and agreed to leave at 1300hrs for a slow run down with the tide to arrive just before 1700 hrs and went down the pub for a while. 1300 hrs and we were back on the Trent following in K2's footsteps at a fast tick over, a couple of hours later the cruiser overtook us on his way to Yarmouth. We arrived at West Stockwith about an hour before the tide turned, K2 pulled into the side, out of the current and tied up to the pilings at the lock mouth. I went past and turned into the current and pushed up along side him. We then sat and had a drink while we waited for the lock keeper and the tide to turn; I couldn't believe how quickly it changed direction, not like this part of the world where you get thirty minutes slack water. When the lock keeper arrived and set the lock for us I find myself not only on the outside and had to go in first but also pointing the wrong way, i.e. with the flow and away from the lock. Out we go and do yet another three sixty turn and push our way into the lock. K2 just passed up a rope and nosed round the corner. I was told later by the skipper of Bath a working boat that its easiest to turn towards Lincoln in the river as that way the current swings your stern more. --- The UK Waterways Network - http://www.ukwaterways.net/ * bringing the inland waterways community together * You are currently subscribed to canals as: george@adiva.com To unsubscribe send a blank email to leave-canals-407N@ukwaterways.net
